Leïla Martial ‘Baabel’

02/11/2017

Leïla Martial‘s voice is a fountain of boundless creativity, a source of onomatopoeia which changes and transforms itself to adapt to any soundscapes it encounters. Far from aping scat or traditional vocal jazz, the French singer creates her own language and opens jazz up to more modern musical forms.

Her second album Baabel, released on Laborie Jazz, is an encounter between jazz landscapes, electronic effects, the dynamic structures of rock and some delicate pop moments which see Martial recovers the use of everyday words.

She’s in London on 10th November for the London Jazz Festival, for the official UK launch of Baabel.
