Imarhan hail from Tamanrasset, in the south of Algeria, and took European audiences and festival crowds by storm following the release of their eponymous debut album in 2016. They have just announced the follow-up, Temet, which will be released on 23rd February on City Slang.
Temet (which means “connections” in Tamashek, Tuareg language) was recorded in Paris with Patrick Votan and Tinariwen’s Eyadou Ag Leche and is an energetic call for unity and community spirit.
Beyond the traditional desert blues, it mixes in funk and pop, as first single ‘Azzaman’ proves. The band explain that the song is about the handing over of a heritage by each generation, a connection between cultures, and the mixing of the old with the new.
Imarhan play a London show on 23rd March at Moth Club.
