Gauthier Toux Trio ‘The Colours You See’

04/05/2018

“With this new album, I have tried to highlight my very personal approach to colours. I have always found the very concept quite intriguing, ever since when, at age 4, I was discovered to be colour-blind. Ever since that day, I have never ceased to wonder about alternative ways in which they can be perceived, venturing beyond the names assigned to each of them.” So says Gauthier Toux of his trio’s new release on highly respected UK label Naim.

The Gauthier Toux Trio was formed in 2013 and brings together three young exponents of the fertile European jazz scene  – pianist Toux,
Geneva-born French drummer Maxence Sibille and Danish double bass player Kenneth Dahl Knudsen. All three are enthusiasts of the jazz tradition, but are also into electronic music, rock and hip-hop. This is their third album together and – in its dazzling explorations of the relationship between colour and light – one that should bring them a wider international audience.

Gauthier Toux will be playing solo at the Offbeat Jazz & Cinema Festival on 26th May, re-imagining Martial Solal’s score to Godard’s À bout de souffle (Breathless) before a screening of the Nouvelle Vague classic, and the trio will be playing a lunchtime show at Pizza Express in Soho the following day.
