On 29th June, the Florian Pellissier Quintet are crossing the channel for a special ‘Freedom Jazz France’ Church of Sound event in Hackney’s St James the Great. Church of Sound has proved to be one of the hippest jazz events in London, acclaimed by The Independent and Loud and Quiet, and with shows streamed on NTS Radio or Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM.
The first set will pay tribute to French jazz from the early 60s to the 80s, while the second will feature their own Blue Note-inspired originals. Among other material, the Quintet will be performing ‘Valse pour Hélène’ and ‘Hectorologie‘ by Jef Gilson, a huge influence on the French jazz scene. There will be food on the menu and all proceeds from the booking fees will be going to charity via Party for the People.
