Delgres 'Mo Jodi' - Oui Love - New French Music

Delgres ‘Mo Jodi’

Mo Jodi, the debut album release from guitarist Pascal Danae (Rivière Noire, Morcheeba) and his band, is described by Uncut as “a raw-boned fusion of blues, rockabilly, roots rhythms and garage rock…”

Inspired by the resistance and eventual self-sacrifice of Louis Delgrès, a Creole officer who fought against Napoleon’s army as they fought to reinstate slavery in the French Caribbean, Delgres combine Danae’s bluesy guitar, Rafgee’s Sousaphone (which provides the bass) and Baptiste Brondy on drums to rousing effect. Their music has earned them comparisons to everyone from John Lee Hooker to The Black Keys but, as Uncut point out,  “it has an earthy energy doused with an intoxicating voudou mystery that is quite unique.”
